National Arts and Humanities Month, October 2010
El Paseo Arts Foundation Celebrates the Arts and Humanities in the Lower Laguna Madre Area

El Paseo Arts Foundation joins thousands of arts organizations and communities across the nation in celebrating National Arts and Humanities Month throughout October and the rest of the 2010-2011 arts season. El Paseo will carry the message of the value of the
arts to the people of the Lower Laguna Madre by participating as sponsors for area arts events and developing local productions and presenting a Showcase Season with theater, music and arts events.
Robert L. Lynch, president and CEO of Americans for the Arts and national coordinator of Arts and Humanities month, says, “Everyone recognizes the creative and cultural value of the arts and humanities. National Arts and Humanities Month offers us a chance to celebrate the often overlooked economic, educational, and civic engagement values that the arts impart in our daily lives.”
Everyone in the community is encouraged to participate in what has become this country’s largest annual collective celebration of the arts and humanities. In October, El Paseo’s play reading group meets at Paragraphs Bookstore on the Monday the 11th and October 20th -24th take the family to the beach at Isla Blanca where El Paseo will
sponsor a Master Sculptor for one of the area’s premier events, Sandcastle Days. These Masters of the sand create unique and wonderful art using the sand from the best beach in Texas, and aspiring sand artists showcase their talents. Visitors to the event can also create their own “trash art sculpture” as part of the Unlitter Campaign. The following week, join the Museums of Port Isabel in a celebration of art and culture for The Day of the Dead, and on November 2nd, put a wrap up the Halloween Celebration with a classic mystery when El Paseo presents the Camille Playhouse’s production of Agatha Christie’s And Then There Were None. On November 6th, stroll Lighthouse Square for the 6th Annual Art Walk featuring new artists, favorite local artists and many new works of art.
Make the arts part of your October and the rest of your year. Celebrate the musical arts with local musicians at area restaurants. Read a book with your children or encourage them to paint or draw a picture of something that makes them smile. Visit the El Paseo
Arts Foundation website at www.elpaseoarts.org to check the schedule of arts events coming to this area. While there you can make a donation to the arts in our bay area communities or become a season sponsor.
National Arts and Humanities Month is coordinated by Americans for the Arts, the national organization working to empower communities with the resources and support necessary to provide access to all of the arts for all of the people. This month-long celebration grew out of National Arts Week, which was begun in 1985 by the National Endowment for the Arts and Americans for the Arts. With 49 years of service, Americans for the Arts is dedicated to representing and serving local communities and creating opportunities for every American to participate in and appreciate all forms of the arts.
El Paseo Arts Foundation is a not-for-profit organization with the mission to support and promote the arts in the Lower Laguna Madre Area.
