El Paseo Sponsors Children's Theatre Event
Live theatre story telling helps students learn about theatre while encouraging creativity, developing imagination and building confidence.

An artistic experience that teaches as well as entertains is coming to Port Isabel Schools in January. The touring theater company, Artes de la Rosa, is coming from Fort Worth to perform a children's play for students at the Garriga and Derry Elementary schools. The troupe uses professional teaching performers to stimulate audience participation. They make the children's audience take part in the play and experience the magic of live theater story telling. It is a technique that helps students learn about acting while encouraging creativity, developing imagination and building confidence.
The play tells an old Mexican folk tale, El Conejito Verde (The Green Rabbit). It's about a mischievous prince who learns the true meaning of love and loyalty after being transformed into a rabbit. The plot is guaranteed to hold children's attention.
Sponsor of the visit is the El Paseo Arts Foundation (EPAF) based here in the communities around the Laguna Madre with the mission to promote appreciation of all the arts and enrich educational opportunities. EPAF has arranged for Artes de la Rosa to come with the generous help of local sponsors and the Texas Commission on the Arts.
EPAF's overall goals are to foster arts education, nurture local talent, emphasize regional character and strengthen interest in the arts for all ages.
The performance group has earned impressive awards: Coming Up Taller Award from the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities; Best of the Arts Award by radio station WRR for Best Arts Experiences for Children, 2005-2011; Kennedy Center Capacity Building recipient (1 of 14 in the nation). Artes de la Rosa is dedicated to preserving, promoting and interpreting the art, culture, lives and history of the Latino Community.

The gifted Voxare String Quartet formed in 2008 and has since received critical praise for its inventive programming, technical prowess, attention to detail, and passionate performances. The New York Times has on numerous occasions chosen Voxare as its Classical Pick of the Week. Voxare's unique performing activities earned them Chamber Music America's 2010 ASCAP Award for Adventurous Programming.
The four individual quartet members have amassed a number of prizes at international competitions. With a repertoire spanning five centuries, Voxare is not afraid to break down the boundaries of classical music; they have made and performed their own transcriptions of popular and rock music and often perform in alternative concert venues. Future season highlights include the release of a Naxos recording of the quartets of Daron Hagen (including a new quartet written for Voxare), and a month-long tour of the UK.
El Paseo Arts Foundation thanks the Walmart Foundation its generous grant to the arts in our area. We welcome them as our newest Headliner Sponsor for the 2011-12 season.
