One of the unique features of the American Wind Symphony’s ship the Point Counterpoint II is an art gallery featuring the works of famous artists from around the world. Each year as part of their season tour, they select one piece of art from each port to include as part of the collection for that season. El Paseo Arts Foundation sponsored a contest to select the piece of art that would represent our area for this year’s tour. Artists from across the Valley were invited to submit a piece of art for the contest. The fifteen entries were on display at the Garden in Lighthouse Square last Sunday evening. Amid plants and fountains, guests viewed the art works and enjoyed wine, hors d’oeuvres, and music by Johnny Mac. A panel of three judges selected Carol Plumb’s watercolor, Laguna Atacosa as the winner. Carol’s painting will be hung in the ships gallery for this year’s tour and will be enjoyed by the ship’s visitors in Port Charles, Memphis and the many other ports along the Point Counterpoint II’s journey this summer. |
